The Kearo Zenn Quartet is a project consisting of Kenzo Nera (chromatic harmonica, compositions), Nils Hilhorst (electric guitar), Matteo Mazzu (electric bass), and Victor Goldschmidt (drums). Based in Brussels, the band plays a modern and melodic jazz, tinged with rock, metal and groove influences, inspired by, among many others, Snarky Puppy, Radiohead, Robert Glasper, King Crimson and Ennio Morricone.
In a musical world full of contrasts, aerial melodies meet groovy, rocky guitar and bass riffs; the softness of the chromatic harmonica easily finds its way through a music that does not hesitate to raise the energy.
On 26 May 2017, the group won the XL Jazz Wedstrijd competition with Vortex and NH4. There they received the second prize of the jury, the public prize, as well as the best soloist prize for the guitarist Nils Hilhorst.
In February 2018, the band released their first EP of five tracks, “Secret Lab”, which affirms the project's hybrid identity.
